DIGITAL GUTS

AIMS

DIGITAL GUTS focuses on researching the interconnectivity between bodies and digital devices to explore a non-organic corporeality. The aim is to generate a collective space for experimentation and critical thinking about conceptions of the body and its relation with different technologies. The workshop format DIGITAL GUTS stems from the practice of the Argentinean duo Post-Organic Bauplan, which has been developing robotic prostheses since 2017.

The workshop proposes to share the vision of Post-Organic Bauplan, to reflect with the participants on the possible relationships between bodies and machines and the political importance of this subject in current times. This Is a space to investigate on that topic from a practical approach, involving creating devices to sense the body and experimenting with these devices from the body in movement.

Participants will be invited to create specific devices to sense and give stimuli to the body. Together, we will explore the diversity of sensors and actuators developed for open-source platforms like Arduino. These devices will be designed to stimulate the body and interact with the environment.

Through tools of improvisation and dance, we will investigate, individually and collectively, the relation between body and digital devices. Seeing the devices as opportunities for exploration of the body. Working on the different possibilities that can appear when we understand the body as a moving field full of affectations.

AIMS

  • Introduce the use of Arduino, both software and hardware, to connect biological and digital data.
  • Explore digital and electronic tools for the creation and development of body sensing devices and to open the body to new sensitivities.
  • Encourage and support participants in the conception of their own projects and devices by supporting their exploration and creativity, fostering exchange in a collective frame.
  • Investigate the dynamic relationship between bodies and the devices created during the workshop through engaging dance exercises.
  • Open the space for dialogue on the political significance of developing devices for body exploration.
  • Delve critically into the complexities of technology usage, discussing its potential and drawbacks.

DURATION & REQUIREMENTS

Digital guts is a 25 hours workshop: 5 days — 5 hours per day.
Number of participants: 12 ppl.

DIGITAL GUTS is aimed at people with curiosity/interest/relation to dance, digital art, programming and/or performance, who want to research the creation of digital devices and explore with their corporeality. Previous knowledge of dance or programming is not required.
