“Autotomy describes the ability of some animal species to shed their body parts in hazardous situations. The limbs dropped at the predetermined breaking point provided for this purpose are able to grow back, sometimes complete, sometimes incomplete or not at all. In der Gastgeberkörper, the collective Post-Organic Bauplan makes a habit of this ability from the animal kingdom. They explore the connection between human being and machine, by attaching electronically movable protheses to one’s own body.In this second part of their trilogy AUTOTOMIE, dance becomes host of the Cyborg aesthetic which is common to Post-Organic Bauplan. This aesthetic is in the style of Donna Haraways “Cyborg Manifesto” which crosses our idea of a unity of body and also celebrates abnormal body parts. The connection between prosthesis and dance creates a futuristic image of human being, machine and society which provokes reflection in a sensual way about the changeability of one’s own body and aestheticizing these bodies…”
“Der Gastgeberkörper” is the second part of the trilogy Autotomie, exploring the intersection between the human body, dance and robotic prostheses. The post-humanist duo Post-organic Bauplan integrates specially developed prostheses into the physical expression of their movement performances in order to dissolve the idea of the human body as natural, given and unchangeable.
